The Growth Tech Evenings are an opportunity for leading figures to discuss and debate, in a
confidential manner, their views, expectations, issues or concerns for IT companies in the near- term. The seventh in this series will be focused on Health Technology (HealthTech).
"Healthtech is a booming market that is set to grow rapidly, as the effects of an ageing population and cuts to the NHS make technology a crucial source of savings and new methods of treatment” (TechWorld - Jan 2019)
The discussions will largely be driven from an IT perspective, led by four business leaders at the vanguard of the HealthTech revolution. Health technology is defined by the World Health Organization as the "application of organized knowledge and skills in the form of devices, medicines, vaccines, procedures and systems developed to solve a health problem and improve quality of lives". In an Oct 2018 policy paper on the future of healthcare, the DHSS stated that “the UK has the chance to lead the world on HealthTech. We already have some of the world’s leading HealthTech companies bringing new innovations and advancing the international reputation of our excellent science and research base”. The UK HealthTech sector employs more than 121,000 people across 3,500 companies and has an annual turnover of £22.2bn with growth of around 5% in recent years thanks to a thriving community of digital startups.
The evening will provide an opportunity to hear the experiences of those involved, identify the key drivers which they believe will affect the growth of HealthTech and to discuss the opportunities and issues this presents for the UK and Global Health sector.
The guest speakers will start the evening by providing context to the topic and giving their views on the opportunities and challenges. There will then follow an interactive debate which we expect to last around an hour. Wine and soft drinks will be provided.
