The Freedom of the City of London has been a special honor bestowed on a diverse set of people in the City of London and is one of the oldest surviving ceremonies still in existence today.
We cordially invite you to join us for a delightful evening in the presence of the current Master of WCIT, Stefan Fafinski, at Watermen’s Hall. This event is a wonderful opportunity for all existing, and potential new members to learn more about the Freedom of the City. Our speaker, Murray Craig, the Clerk of the Chamberlain’s Court, will give a talk on the City Freedom, an institution which goes back to the early 13th Century. Until the 19th century, one needed to be Free of the City, given via a Livery Company or Guild to trade within the Square Mile. He will talk about the tradition of giving the Freedom of the City and will share anecdotes from past and present ceremonies he has performed over the years. The evening will be an opportunity to talk to existing WCIT members to find out more about what we do in our modern WCIT livery Company, and how new members can get involved. Members, potential members and partners are all very warmly invited to this evening. For more information and to book, please see below.
