Our founding portrait was painted by Martin Yeoman. It shows the founding members of the company’s Court (or governing body): (from left to right) Robin Laidlaw, Alderman Sir Brian Jenkins, Alan Rousell, Sir Robert Reid, Alan Benjamin, Barney Gibbens (then Master), Chamberlain Bernard Harty, Mrs Steve Shirley and Derek Harding (then Clerk).
The portrait was commissioned by former Masters Barney Gibbens and Steve Shirley. It was presented to the company in January 1998, and now hangs in Information Technologists’ Hall.
Our second portrait was presented by Roger Graham following his year as Master (2004/05).
The portrait is set in the reception area of the Hall. It is of himself as Master, with nine Past Masters and John Leighfield, then Senior Warden. The depiction of Past Master Ric Gainsborough Foot in a portrait on the background wall ‘is an age-old device’ for the representation of deceased persons who would otherwise have appeared in the picture itself. The artist: Painted by the celebrated artist Andrew Festing, President of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. He has pictures in the Royal Collection – in addition to a drawing in the Print Room at Windsor Castle there is a large group of all members of the Royal family which hangs at Sandringham. Several pictures are exhibited in the Palace of Westminster (the House of Commons and the House of Lords); others hang at the National Gallery of Ireland, and the National Portrait Gallery.
