The Information Technologists’ Company is co-sponsoring, with the Mercers’, a new-build secondary school in Hammersmith with a specialism in digital media and technology. We are governors of this innovative school and will have a major influence in shaping its specialist curriculum and learning environment.
The Academy opened its doors in September 2011 with an intake of 120 Year 7's and 120 Sixth Formers. The vision created by the Information Technologists Company, along with the Mercers Company, for an Academy School drawing on our IT expertise and using the latest digital media at the heart of its learning environment, is now a reality. 650 applications for Year 7 intake were assessed and 120 offers made and there were 285 Sixth Form applications for 120 places. The intake was chosen to cover the whole ability range, including special needs, and is drawn from the immediate vicinity of the school (within 2km). Our school will be a place where every student matters, regardless of their ability, background or faith, and where pastoral concerns for students balance academic goals. For the very latest information, go to the Academy website at www.hammersmithacademy.org, read the Headmaster's blog or watch a video of the type we expect our students to learn to prepare.
The Academy will not only change the face, status and profile of our company and sector but more importantly it will change the lives and prospects of many future generations of young people. Our school will be a place where every student matters, regardless of their ability, background or faith, and where pastoral concerns for students balance academic goals.
Court Assistant, Liveryman Tom Ilube, who is Chairman of Governors of the school, recently emphasised the importance of the technology focus, saying:
"ICT and Digital Media are at the heart of the UK economy, as creative entrepreneurs harness technology to conceive and build new companies around the web, business services, media and communications. The Academy is all about nurturing those creative forces and developing a new generation of students, whether they might turn into technicians, artists, industry leaders or just people who are well informed on technology. This project is what the Livery is all about; making a difference on so many levels; to the students, the community, the industry and each of us through our contribution"
