The Information Technologists' Company was granted livery status in 1992, becoming the 100th livery company of the City of London. Our Royal Charter, one of only 1,000 to be awarded over the past 800 years was granted at a ceremony in St Paul's Cathedral on the 17th June 2010. After the service the Lord Mayor's pikemen escorted the Royal Charter to the Mansion House, where our members and honoured guests celebrated the award at a dinner attended by His Royal Highness Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex.
All livery companies are awarded their Charter – or Grant of Arms – by the City of London. In 1992, the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists received its Charter from the Lord Mayor and Aldermen of the City of London.
The Charter gives us permission to admit 300 Liverymen, provided that ‘the Fine for admission to the Livery is not less than 600 pounds sterling’ and that no one is admitted to the livery unless they are a freeman of the City of London. The Court of Aldermen has recently approved an increase in the number of Liverymen to 350.
In December 2008, members voted at an Extraordinary General Meeting to apply for a Royal Charter.
