The awards ceremony for the second annual iT4Communities IT Volunteer Awards was held at the Information Technologists’ Hall in London on Thursday 29 November.

The awards recognise outstanding achievement for both volunteers and charities and are held annually with the presentation in late November.

The theme of this year's awards was "Working Towards a Better World" and there were prizes in four categories.

The winners and runners-up in each category are:

Best IT Volunteer

Winner:
Gary Axford nominated by The Riverside Centre

Runners-up:
David Rogers nominated by National Phobics Society
John Stewart nominated by CHILDREN 1ST

Best IT Volunteer Project: Innovation

Winner:
Paul Campbell and Sevenoaks Area Mind

Runners-up:
Pip Jones and Community Base
Steven Bowers / Sally Grey and Berkshire County Blind Society

Best IT Volunteer Project: Impact on Organisation

Winner:
Tamsin Crothers and 1Voice

Runners-up:
Paul Campbell and Dawn’s New Horizon
Steph Gray and Greater London Volunteering

Best Accessible IT Volunteer Project

Winner:
Leon Gilbert and The Accessible Friends Network

Runners-up:
Geoffrey Walker and Leonard Cheshire
Robin Decadt and Coventry Society for the Blind

John Davies, programme director of iT4C said, "We would like to congratulate all the winners and to thank all the entrants for their dedication and hard work in the field of volunteering. It was great to see how many people are giving their time and talent to IT related projects. Hopefully the inspirational work of our entrants will encourage more people to volunteer in the future."
